About Carolina

I am an independent educational consultant and specialist dyslexia teacher with years of experience in advising parents and schools about children's education, learning needs and emotional well-being.

I care deeply that every child and young adult feels good about himself and achieves well at school and at home. As a learning expert, I guide and support parents to ensure that they can give their children the best education possible.

My passion is focusing on maximising children's potential, in particular those with Learning Difficulties (dyslexia, dyspraxia, handwriting difficulties and fine motor control weaknesses, ADD, ADHD, dyscalculia, Sensory Integration Disorder, Auditory Processing Disorder, Visual Processing Disorder, Asperger and memory difficulties) and high potential, gifted underachievers.

Dyslexia tuition
I undertake educational diagnostic assessments and specialist 1:1 teaching for children, teenagers and adults, and offer guidance for parents and schools in dyslexia, specific learning difficulties, high potential and giftedness.

I focus on identifying the strengths of each child and undertaking a holistic analysis, so that I can recommend teaching strategies and help parents focus their energy in positive and motivational parenting techniques. I engage the whole family and show parents how to forge good partnerships with teachers and school systems.

I show parents what they can do at home to help their child learn better at school and university in areas such as reading, spelling, handwriting, study skills, modern foreign languages and memory strategies. I help parents and children deal with the emotional consequences of having any form of learning challenge, and help parents choose the right school for their child in English speaking schools worldwide.

I provide consultancy and advice to parents looking to place their children in schools in the Surrey area in the UK and British International Schools worldwide.

I advise schools in developing the best systems and processes needed to evaluate, develop, monitor, support and manage pupils with SEND and High Potential children who are underachieving their potential.

Along with my many years of working with children, I am the parent of two bright children with dyslexia, dyspraxia and speech and language problems. I overcame my own dyslexia and have used coping strategies and motivational techniques to inspire my own children and that of my students. I truly understand the challenges that children and their families face every day of their lives with respect to education, achievement and self-esteem.

I am a qualified Educational Assessor, Specialist Teacher, Lecturer and Speaker in dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties. I have qualifications in primary, secondary and further education: P.G.C.E. (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) teacher qualified with Q.T.S (Qualified Teacher Status); BA (Hons 1st Class); Diploma of Linguistics; OCR (SpLd), CCET A; CPT3A - Certificate of Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements (British Psychological Society).

I have an up-to-date enhanced C.R.B. and membership to PATOSS (The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific learning difficulties) and the Psychological Testing Centre (The Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU) for test users who have been awarded qualifications in educational or occupational test use by the British Psychological Society).

I have worked on the Academic Management Team for a high profile school, where we individually monitor and guide every pupil's achievement potential and focus on high levels of success for every child.

I have written and published high and medium frequency spelling workbooks for children to help them learn how to spell the most common words.

As well as my day to day work, I write; and I am about to publish a book for parents:

"Time for Talent"
Empowering Successful Dyslexic Children for Life
(from kindergarten to college)

and an e-book for teachers on SEND classroom strategies.

I am based near Guildford in Surrey, England.
